God's favorite things!

Micah 6:6-8, God requires of His people justice, mercy and humility.

Do you know God's favorite things?

What does the King favor? The prophet Micah gives us a clue: “He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you, but to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?” Three of God's favorite things are justice, mercy and humility.

Justice is one of the great concerns of God in the Bible. The Mosaic Law is full of provisions designed to guarantee fair and equitable treatment for all people, especially the weak and powerless in society who have no one to protect them. God is just and His favorites among His children are those who are just as committed as He is to justice for everyone.

Mercy is precious because it is such a rare commodity in our world. It is much easier to be judgmental of others than to extend mercy. Judgment can be given from a distance but mercy means we have to become personally involved. Mercy has a reciprocal quality; if you give it out it comes back to you. Jesus said, “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.” The King is merciful and His favorites are merciful also.

Humility is a passkey to the King's inner chambers. Jesus said, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Humility is another word for “poor in spirit.” The more we know how needy we are the more we will take our greatest satisfaction in the King.

Let's fall in love with justice, mercy and humility—God's favorite things!

Prayer
Father, I want to make Your favorite things my own. Help me to serve justice, show mercy and to walk humbly with You.
