Holy: Exalted or worthy of complete devotion as one perfect in goodness and righteousness.
Of all of the adjectives used in the Word of God to describe the nature of God, the most expressive is the word “holy.” It seems that today we have seen the names of God and the nature of God diminished, even by Christians. He is not “the man upstairs,” He is holy. He is not your “homeboy.” He is holy.
He is exalted, whether I exalt Him or not. He does not need to be exalted. He is exalted. My worship and service and devotion does not make Him God. He IS God. My worship and service and devotion makes me obedient…makes me His.
He is worthy. There is no other god worthy of your complete devotion. All other gods, whether they are things or people or possessions are unworthy and undeserving of complete devotion.
He is perfect. Perfection is an allusive concept. Whether it is music or sports, no matter how good someone may be, absolute perfection is not achievable (at least in this life). Only one human being in the history of the world achieved perfection in His life and walk: Jesus Christ. Jesus is perfect in goodness and righteousness. He is worthy of complete devotion. Maybe we should stop striving for perfection and start striving for excellence. Perfection can't be obtained but excellence can. When you think about the holiness of God think about the fact that it is only by His holiness and His perfection and His goodness that we get to worship Him.
Sunday November 6th UnderCover will be leading a song written by Jesus Culture simply titled "HOLY" we will be running a slide show with this song clearing painting the picture of Christ' Holiness and maybe just maybe we will really understand the meaning of this word HOLY and the reverence that is due to our KING!
